Chainguard joins DHS S&T new startup cohort to strengthen software supply chain

Dan Lorenc, CEO

Today, Chainguard was awarded a grant by the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (DHS S&T) to join its new startup cohort focused on strengthening software supply chain visibility tools. The cohort is designed to empower disruptors that are developing innovative solutions to address the growing risks associated with software supply chain attacks.

At Chainguard, we understand the importance of securing the software supply chain. In today's interconnected world, software is critical to the functioning of every organization, and any vulnerability in the software supply chain can have far-reaching consequences. Cyber attacks targeting software supply chains have become increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect, making it more important than ever to have effective tools and processes in place to protect against them.

DHS S&T awarded $200,000 to Chainguard to create an SBOM composition tool by developing the conceptual schema of how to join SBOMs. Chainguard will also create test suites of both individual and combined SBOMs and contribute to the foundational open source software libraries associated with this initiative. Because modern software has many parts, it is a certainty that many software applications will actually have several associated SBOMs. Combining together relevant SBOMs will enable end-users to have the full picture and will allow organizations to aggregate and address risk.

We’re honored to be the lead grantee which will enable us to drive adoption of critical initiatives like SBOMs, collaborate with other innovative companies and benefit from the expertise and resources of the DHS. This partnership will help us to further enhance our solutions and stay ahead of the evolving threat landscape.

Our software supply chain security solutions are designed to help organizations mitigate the risks associated with third-party software components. By providing comprehensive visibility into the software supply chain, we help organizations identify potential vulnerabilities and take proactive steps to address them. We help developers build software right the first time, enabling fortified software delivery that CISOs can trust. We know that collectively – with government, private sector and our peers - we can solve one of the biggest challenges facing the technology industry today.

The DHS S&T startup cohort will provide us with access to a range of resources and support, including technical expertise, funding, and mentorship. This will enable us to accelerate the development of our solutions and bring them to market more quickly. We are excited about the opportunities that this partnership will create, and we look forward to working closely with the DHS S&T and the other members of the cohort.

At Chainguard, we are committed to helping organizations secure their software supply chains and protect themselves against cyber attacks. We believe that our innovative solutions, combined with the resources and support of the DHS S&T startup cohort, will enable us to make a significant impact in this critical area. We applaud the Department’s focus and partnership with the startup community, where the most innovative and transformative work to defend software attacks is happening. By tapping into this talent, DHS can accelerate software supply chain security and prevent the severity of future attacks.

We would like to thank the DHS S&T for selecting us to be part of this important initiative, and we look forward to working together to strengthen software supply chain visibility tools and improve cybersecurity for organizations around the world.
